Sunday 9/17
Woke up early, so accomplished and feeling lovely. Ran 10 miles, doing my great run 8, walk 2 combo in the afternoon, through the park. Feeling great about myself. Right hip/side/hamstring/everything started to cramp up about halfway through, not so great. Walked it out, etc etc, blah blah. Got home. Drove to store and willingly purchased 15 # of ice for ice bath. Took inaugural ice bath in Turk St. apt (guess what, even when you live in your own apt, they still suck). Froze. Still hurt. Tylenol, wine, prayer, bad tv, nothing worked. Turned to heating pad. Worst possible decision ever, as....
Guess what, fool, heating pads make it more swollen. I went to bed and woke up about 3 hrs later writhing (so not exaggerating) in pain. Finally got up at 6.
Monday 9/19 - could not fathom scenario of being on transportation of any sort for an hour to get to Palo Alto. Called in old. Cried. Wanted to have drink (and I do not mean coffee) at 9 a.m. Figured this was not healthy in any remote sort of way.
Went for short aquajog/ swim, to try to loosen hips, which helped somewhat.
Went to chiropractor, who fixed me, and admonished me for (among other things) using the heating pad, which made it so swollen. No running for 5 days, back in the pool. Heating pad bad, ice good. Went to ironteam info meeting and tried to smile (could not sit down!) and talk people into joining.
FYI expired generic Vicodin does not work. However, by calling in old, I did get a whole lotta work done at home!
Tuesday 9/20
Got my ass back in the pool. Ran in water 45". Stanford gymnastics team arrived and infants born in 1987 are now freshman. This is not fair.
Wednesday 9/21
Went to gym at 12:45, only to find out they now close at 1 instead of 2. Lifted weights furiously for 15 minutes. Not very fulfilling. Ran at Koret pool back in city.
Thursday 9/22
Ran 45" in pool. Getting tan.
Friday 9/23
Back to chiropractor. On the mend.
Sat 9/24
All day (I would like to underscore ALL day) Ironteam staff training/bonding. Took personality tests. Took bus downtown to meeting, which was likely more enlightening than test. (scary, too). Was a good day - I am psyched for this year.
Sun 9/25
Attempted long run again. Ran 75", then swam/ran in pool for 45" more. Felt pretty good. Lifted. Metabolism stirs. Yeah.
